Abstract

Behaviors are defined, in terms of the backward shift operator, as linear, shift invariant and closed in an appropriate topology subspaces of the signal space, $z^{−1}F[[z^{−1}]]^{m}$ in our case. Behaviors have a natural F[z]-module structure and it is of fundamental impor-tance to study the corresponding homomorphisms between different behaviors. The talk will present the basic results, explain their system theoretic significance and discuss some applications. First and foremost, we will show how behavior homomorphisms lead to a general theory of equivalence for linear systems. Other applications include the connections between behavior theory and geometric control, state representations for behaviors and observer theory.
