Abstract

This work deals with the control of a scalar stochastic linear system when the control loop is closed over a finite rate communication channel. Specifically, we are interested in the analysis of the dynamics of probability distributions in the presence of a memoryless quantizer. With regard to the stabilization problem, three parameters are introduced to measure the transient and steady state performance of the system and the complexity of the quantizer. The dynamics is then analyzed in terms of these parameters and the mutual dependence between performance and complexity is studied.
