Abstract

This paper solves some synthesis problems for a class of continuous-time linear systems for which the state takes nonnegative values whenever the initial conditions are nonnegative. In particular, first the synthesis of state feedback controllers is solved in terms of Linear Programming problems, including the requirement of positiveness of the controller and its extension to uncertain plants. Also, other synthesis problem are treated such as imposing nonsymmetrical bounds on the stabilizing control and/or nonsymetrical bounds on the state. In a second part some synthesis problems for linear observers (in the Luenberger sense) are also solved using these ideas. Some numerical examples are given to show the feasibility of the proposed approaches.
