Abstract

This paper proposes a design method of an observer for networked control systems with time-varying delay. The proposed observer has multiple observer gains. In each time step, a remote plant sends a packet with a time-stamp. When a local host receives this packet, its transmission delay is measured from the time-stamp and the observer selects gains to estimate the present plant state. The estimation error is then governed by a kind of switched system. By means of solving linear matrix inequalities, the observer is designed so that the stability of the error system is guaranteed even if the gains are switched randomly. Furthermore, the performance of the estimation is improved by using D-stability. Finally, a numerical simulation illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed observer.
