Abstract

This paper is concerned with stability properties of second-order systems with hysteretic restoring force which naturally arise in mechanical engineering. Conditions ensuring ``nice" asymptotic behaviour are expressed in terms of parameters associated with the corresponding differential equation and a certain Lipschitz property of the hysteresis.
